Italian designer and sculptor Vincenzo De Cotiis has become highly sought-after for his rather unique approach to design. Through the reappropriation of salvaged materials and a eye for selecting exquisite historic structures, his Milan-based agency has built a reputation for juxtaposing raw authenticity with a minimalist approach. When it came time to address his own private residence, de Cotiis lovingly and painstakingly restored a spectacular 18th-century Milanese apartment, stripping it back to it’s original beauty and identity. As you enter past the buttery hued exterior, welcomed by a curved mahogany stairway and travertine floors – room after room take part of a symphony written by detailed textures and expressive forms. The piéce de résistance – a dining room dominated by de Cotiis own sculptural works consisting of a hanging light, 11-foot-long dining table and low stools both constructed of seamlessly fused recycled fiberglass and silver-plated brass. The final curtain call, hanging on the wall, a set of theatre props from the 80s, now fully restored, have taken on both new life and meaning. (Image: Simon Watson) #meandmybentley (at Milan, Italy)
