Commemorating the remarkable career of fashion icon Monsieur Saint Laurent – Morocco’s recently opened landmark Musée Yves Saint Laurent permanently cements the designer’s influence on the historic city. Created by Paris-based architectural firm Studio KO, the red brick structure is a subtle, organic space with an façade that references both American artist James Turrell and the traditional courtyards and riads of Morocco. The museum is located on the same site as both Jardin Majorelle, the iconic estate once owned by Saint Laurent and partner Pierre Bergé, and the Berber Museum, creating an all-encompassing fashion, cultural and botanical complex. Inside there are curated spaces dedicated to YSL’s haute couture, archive fashion sketches, old photos and stage and film works including set design for the ballet and French cinema.
