Igor Sychev
Vladimir Putin’s Russia is a less than ideal place for a young gay artist to work. Yet 27-year-old Igor Sychev creates and thrives. He is out to his family, and he has been with his partner, Misha, for four years. Inspired by how the works of many artists, such as Egon Schiele, Lucian Freud, Michelangelo Caravaggio, and many more, made use the light and colour. Igor Sychev’s essentially figurative art, although domestically “censored” is full of magic realism, which travels across time and space, creating a sensual dream world, which keeps his ability to express himself, and to hold the artistic visibility he deserves.
